KNAUF stone wool is an insulating stone which is industrially produced from rock melted into fibers. It is classified as a mineral wool product for use in building insulation, according to the European standard EN 13162 (MW - Mineral wool insulation products). Stone wool is a natural inorganic fibrous material, widely known for its thermal and sound insulating properties, as well as its excellent fire protection performance. Stone wool is produced from mineral rock, initially melted in an electric furnace at 1520 ° C and then formed into fibers. Its fibers, with the addition of adhesive resin, oil and special silicone compounds that provide hydrophobicity, become cohesive, elastic, non-hygroscopic and water-resistant, formed into plates and finally wrapped in PE (packaging film). Not using fossil fuels (e.g. coke) as the main production fuel minimizes gas pollution in the environment.
